In a tragic incident, a plane crashed on a highway near the city of Shah Alam in the Selangor state of Malaysia, resulting in the death of at least ten individuals. The mishap was reported on Thursday, making national headlines.
According to Channel News Asia, the state police chief of Selangor, Hussein Omar Khan, stated that of the ten casualties, eight were passengers on the plane, while the other two were pedestrians on the ground at the time of the crash. He further elaborated that fire and rescue teams managed to extinguish the flames arising from the wreckage within a mere 10 minutes. Efforts are currently underway to recover and identify the remains of the victims, which will be subsequently transported to a hospital for examination and identification.
Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority released a statement revealing that the ill-fated plane was en route from Langkawi International Airport to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport when the tragedy occurred. The body also mentioned that the air traffic control tower in the Subang area observed thick smoke emanating from the crash site but did not receive any distress signals from the stricken aircraft.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
