The Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has announced the death of 14 Jordanian pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage.
In addition, 17 other Jordanians have been reported missing.
Ambassador Sufyan Al-Qudah, the Director of the Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs, confirmed that the ministry, through its Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs and the General Consulate of the Kingdom in Jeddah, is closely coordinating with Saudi authorities.
They are working to ensure the swift burial of the deceased pilgrims and the repatriation of those whose families wish to have them returned to Jordan. Efforts are also underway to locate the 17 missing pilgrims.
The Hajj pilgrimage, an annual Islamic ritual, brings millions of Muslims from around the world to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The event, one of the largest religious gatherings globally, can be logistically challenging, often leading to incidents and casualties due to the massive influx of pilgrims.
Jordan, like many other countries, sends thousands of pilgrims each year to participate in Hajj.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens during this period, providing consular support and coordinating with local authorities in Saudi Arabia.
The ministry’s proactive measures and close collaboration with Saudi authorities are crucial in managing such incidents and providing timely assistance to affected families.
