A bus accident in Saudi Arabia resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals of Arab nationalities, as reported by the Jordanian news outlet Roya.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a bus overturned between the provinces of Umluj and Al-Wajh in the western part of the kingdom.
Eyewitnesses at the scene conveyed to Roya that the Civil Defense swiftly responded, transferring the deceased and injured to hospitals in Al-Wajh and Umluj, located in the Tabuk region of northwestern Saudi Arabia.
The eyewitnesses confirmed that the victims hailed from various Arab countries.
Further distressing details emerged from social media, where one activist described the bus as being en route from the Kingdom to Jordan for visa renewal purposes, primarily for a group of Egyptians.
The activist’s post on Facebook highlighted a grim scenario, stating, “The accident involved a bus carrying many Egyptians from Yanbu.
“Sadly, approximately 17 people died, excluding those critically injured. The driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the bus to overturn, and all injured parties were in critical condition.
Unfortunately, most of the deceased were students and children.”
The tragic event has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and calls for stricter safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
The community and families of the victims are in mourning, as they cope with this heartbreaking loss.
In 2023, a two-car collision took place on the road between Al Batha and Haradh in Eastern Province, leaving five people dead and eight others injured.
Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that one of the cars involved was from the UAE and the other was Saudi-registered.
Road security patrols, civil defence teams, and the Saudi Red Crescent Authority attended the scene.
The press agency pointed out that there were seven family members in one vehicle and 12 family members in the second. It did not clarify which car was from the UAE.
