In a recent development, Syrian newspaper “Al-Watan” has reported a fatal encounter between the Syrian army and armed terrorist factions in the Latakia countryside, resulting in the death of 16 army personnel and injuring 5 others. The confrontations unfolded at a location in Wadi Rabia, situated in the province’s northern countryside.
The northern outskirts of Latakia are known to harbor armed factions, predominantly associated with the notorious “Al-Nusra Front” terrorist organization. These factions recurrently launch assaults on civilian territories, causing not only casualties among the residents but also inflicting substantial material damage to both public and private assets.
The Syrian conflict, which began in 2011, has seen numerous factions vying for control over different regions of the country. The Latakia province, located in the northwest of Syria, has been a significant battleground during this conflict. The region has seen a strong presence of terrorist organizations, including the Al-Nusra Front, which has been responsible for numerous attacks on civilian and military targets. The Syrian government, backed by its allies, has been engaging in operations to reclaim territories and eradicate terrorist elements from the region. However, the civilian population continues to bear the brunt of the conflict, facing not only physical danger but also significant damage to infrastructure and properties.
