Three Israeli citizens were killed in a car accident near Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Saturday, according to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement, the Ministry said, “This morning (Saturday), a serious car accident occurred, resulting in the deaths of three members of an Israeli family and injuries to others.”
The family was traveling in the Nuweiba area of Egypt. The Israeli embassy in Cairo and the Department for Israelis Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are handling the incident, working with Egyptian authorities to repatriate the bodies and assist the injured in hospitals.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the deceased included a husband, wife, and their two-month-old baby daughter.
The couple’s two other children were injured and are receiving medical treatment.
The family was on vacation in Nuweiba, located in Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate. According to a relative, the surviving children are already in Taba, on the Egyptian side of the border, waiting to cross back into Israel.
The Sinai Peninsula, particularly the coastal areas around Sharm El Sheikh and Nuweiba is a popular destination for Israeli tourists.
The region offers picturesque beaches and a variety of holiday resorts. However, travel in the area can be hazardous due to the terrain and local traffic conditions.
