Several children were injured in a knife attack carried out by a teenager at a school in western Germany this morning, according to the police, who confirmed the attacker has been apprehended.
A spokesperson for the Dusseldorf police stated that the 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and is currently in police custody, as reported by the “French Press Agency”.
The source added that there are about 5 injured, noting that “the attack has ended.”
The injuries sustained by the victims of the attack, which occurred at a school in the city of Wuppertal in the Ruhr basin area, are severe but not life-threatening.
The police presume that the attacker had a “connection to the school,” referring to a message from the institution’s administration to the parents, indicating that he is a 17-year-old high school student suffering from a mental illness.
Emergency services reported that “the students are fine, and they have been taken care of.”
A significant number of police officers were mobilized for the intervention. A reception point for the students’ families was also established near the school.
