Three men were wounded in a stabbing incident on Wednesday when a woman brandished a knife on a train at Tokyo’s Akihabara Station, as reported by Japanese police.
The incident prompted an emergency call just before 11 p.m. local time (1400 GMT), indicating that the woman had attacked individuals with a knife on the Yamanote loop line, one of Tokyo’s busiest transport routes, according to a spokesperson from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
The woman was subsequently apprehended, and the condition of the three injured men remains undisclosed, stated the spokesperson. Fortunately, Kyodo news agency reported that none of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
Initially, public broadcaster NHK had reported four individuals being stabbed. The East Japan Railway Company briefly suspended services on the Yamanote loop line due to “trouble on the train.”
Akihabara, historically known for its electronics and gadget retailers, stands as a prominent tourism destination in Tokyo and has become synonymous with video games, comic books, and eccentric fashion.
