A knife attack in one of New York’s neighborhoods has resulted in the tragic deaths of four people, including two children.
The police responded to the incident and fatally shot the assailant.
During a press conference, the police revealed that they received a phone call at 5:10 am from a young woman who reported that her cousin was killing members of her family, as reported by the BBC.
Two officers were dispatched to the Far Rockaway area. Upon arrival at the mentioned address, they were attacked by a man wielding a knife, with one officer being struck in the neck and chest and the other in the head.
One of the officers drew his firearm and opened fire on the suspect, who was subsequently transported to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
Additional officers dispatched to the scene later found an 11-year-old girl who had been injured in the front part of the house, which had caught fire.
She was transported to the hospital but tragically did not survive her injuries.
Emergency services also discovered the lifeless bodies of three other individuals inside the residence: a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his thirties.
A 61-year-old woman who sustained multiple knife wounds was also transported to the hospital for treatment.
