The Ukrainian military announced on Saturday that the number of Russian soldiers killed has risen to 415,640 since the start of the Russian military operation.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrinform news agency, Russia has also lost 6,624 tanks, 12,611 armored vehicles, 10,153 artillery systems, 1,000 multiple launch rocket systems, 696 air defense systems, 346 fighter jets, 325 helicopters, 25 warships, 1,617 pieces of special equipment, 7,829 drones, one submarine, and 13,267 vehicles and fuel tanks during this period.
Additionally, the General Staff noted that there were 82 clashes between the Ukrainian army and Russian forces in several regions over the last 24 hours. The Russian forces carried out attacks on Ukrainian territory last night, launching 100 airstrikes, 161 strikes using multiple rocket launchers, and 9 missile strikes on Ukrainian soldiers’ positions and populated areas. The Ukrainian forces targeted Russian forces’ positions and military equipment.
Recent reports highlight the continuous conflict and its devastating impact. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte recently signed a security deal with Ukraine, pledging support with artillery funding, including the supply of 800,000 artillery shells to assist Ukraine against Russian forces. Ukrainian forces have managed to repel Russian attacks in certain areas, but the situation remains extremely challenging, particularly in the eastern Donetsk region where Russia is intensifying its offensive. Amidst these developments, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed openness to contacts with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, though no specific talks have been scheduled. This diplomatic stance comes in the context of Germany’s recent decision to provide Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukrainian forces, a move aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s military capabilities in the face of Russian aggression.
Amnesty International has reported on the severe humanitarian crisis triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The organization has documented numerous human rights violations and potential war crimes committed by Russian forces, including attacks on civilian infrastructure and the unlawful killing and injury of civilians. The conflict has led to a massive displacement crisis, with millions of Ukrainians fleeing their homes to escape the violence. Amnesty International continues to call for international action to address the humanitarian disaster and ensure accountability for the violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
