The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office announced on Saturday that at least 494 children have been killed and 1051 others injured since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine 500 days ago.
In a statement, the Prosecutor General explained that most of the child victims were in the regions of Donetsk and Kharkiv, while others were in areas including the capital, Kyiv, as well as Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Mykolaiv.
The Deputy Prosecutor’s Office added, “These are not final figures. Work is ongoing to gather data in combat zones as well as temporarily occupied and liberated territories.”
It is worth noting that the United Nations stated in a report on Friday that over 9,000 civilians, including more than 500 children, have been killed since the start of the comprehensive Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The UN warned that the actual number of casualties may be much higher than the confirmed figures.
The United Nations also highlighted an increase in civilian casualties during the months of May and June, following a relative decrease in the number of civilian deaths in the first four months of this year.
