State media reported that eight attackers and five Iranian security personnel were killed during confrontations at two different locations in southeastern the country on April 4.
The official IRNA news outlet disclosed that an additional 10 members of the security forces sustained injuries.
The skirmishes began in the early hours in Sistan-Baluchistan Province when armed individuals targeted a Revolutionary Guards position in Rask and a Coast Guard base in Chahbahar, located approximately 1,400 kilometres southeast of Tehran.
According to IRNA, six of the attackers were cornered and took hostages at both locations, although details about the hostages were not provided.
The assaults were attributed to the militant faction Jaish al-Adl, which purportedly advocates for enhanced rights for the Baluch ethnic group.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres recently denounced an attack on Iran’s diplomatic compound in Damascus, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation, according to his spokesperson.
The alleged Israeli airstrike targeted the building housing Iran’s ambassador and consular services in Syria, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals, including two high-ranking officials from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Guterres emphasized the potential dire consequences of any misjudgment, warning that it could exacerbate the already volatile situation in the region and lead to a broader conflict.
A member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and former Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Kowsari, announced that his country maintains the right to strike Israel in the appropriate place.
In an interview with the ILNA news agency, he viewed the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria as a clear violation of the 1961 United Nations Convention, equating the bombing of consulates and embassies to an invasion of a country’s territory.
