A series of attacks by the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in the provinces of Shabwa and Abyan in southern Yemen on Friday resulted in casualties among soldiers and civilians.
Four attacks, including three with explosive devices and a drone attack, targeted patrols and positions of the Shabwa Defense Forces and the Thunderbolt Brigades affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council in the two southern provinces.
A security source told “Al-Ain Al-Ikhbariya” that at least two civilian casualties occurred, and three other soldiers were injured in an explosive device attack targeting a patrol of the Shabwa Defense Forces in the town of “Al-Musayna” in the Al-Saeed district, west of Shabwa.
According to the source, the civilians were onboard the patrol when the explosion occurred, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Simultaneously, a security checkpoint of the Shabwa Defense Forces was attacked by a drone operated by Al-Qaeda, with no human casualties reported, according to the same source.
In the neighboring Abyan province, three people were killed and about seven others were injured in two separate attacks by Al-Qaeda in the town of “Wadi Omran” in the Mudiyah district, east of Abyan.
According to media sources, the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda detonated two explosive devices as patrols affiliated with the Thunderbolt Brigades, part of the Southern Transitional Council, passed through Wadi Omran.
This resulted in three deaths and seven injuries in the initial count.
These are the latest attacks by the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in the two southern provinces, where the organization operates with support from Houthi militias and the Muslim Brotherhood.
On January 6th of this year, 11 soldiers and officers were killed and injured in two terrorist bombings carried out by Al-Qaeda using a network of explosive devices against southern forces in the province of Abyan, southern Yemen.
On the 7th of the same month, four soldiers from the emergency forces were injured in an explosion targeting a military vehicle in Mudiyah, Abyan, as announced by the province’s police in a statement.
Al-Qaeda was responsible for approximately 55 terrorist attacks in 2023, resulting in about 156 casualties, including the most prominent figure, Brigadier Abdul Latif Al-Sayyed, the historical rival of the organization, who was killed in a treacherous explosion in Mudiyah.
