The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported that over 76% of schools in Gaza need significant reconstruction or rehabilitation to become operational again.
According to a post on the agency’s platform, formerly known as Twitter, UNRWA highlighted the dire state of educational facilities in Gaza.
The agency emphasized that more than 76% of the schools in Gaza require extensive rebuilding or substantial rehabilitation, according to the Global Education Cluster.
UNRWA underscored that education is a fundamental human right and called for an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip to address the critical needs of the education sector.
The agency’s plea highlights the urgent need for international attention and intervention to ensure that children in Gaza have access to safe and functional educational facilities.
