Palestinian medical sources have reported that eight patients died at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, due to a power outage that halted the oxygen supply.
The deceased have been lying in their hospital beds among other patients for four days.
The sources added that the bodies have begun to swell and show signs of decomposition, posing a risk to other patients, especially after the Israeli forces refused to allow the removal of the bodies for burial.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has described Gaza as a “death zone,” highlighting the extensive destruction in the area.
In a press conference held yesterday, Ghebreyesus emphasized the continuous deterioration of health and humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
He noted that the WHO, along with its partners, has conducted emergency operations targeting the Nasser Medical Complex in the past three days.
Ghebreyesus reiterated the dire state of Gaza, stating, “Gaza has become a death zone, with a significant portion of the area now destroyed.”
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Wednesday that the death toll from the Israeli war on the enclave has risen to 29,313, with 69,333 individuals injured since October 7th.
The statement from the ministry, affiliated with Hamas, recorded “118 deaths and 163 injuries in the past 24 hours.”
The ministry added that on “the 138th day of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, several victims remain under the rubble and on the streets, with the occupation preventing ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching them.”
