Another 84 Canadians and their family members successfully exited the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing, according to official reports.
Melanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced this development on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday evening.
In her post, she expressed gratitude towards the staff, including those at the Emergency Watch and Response Center, for facilitating their safe journey to Cairo.
This departure follows an earlier announcement on Sunday, which included a group of 135 individuals with Canadian connections on a list approved for exit from the embattled region. The exact number of people traveling on Sunday was not immediately known.
As per a previous update on Friday by Global Affairs, a total of 376 Canadians, permanent residents, and their family members had managed to leave Gaza.
With this recent movement, the count now exceeds 400 individuals who have passed through the Rafah border into Egypt.
The Palestinian Health Ministry has reported the death of 12 individuals, comprising wounded patients and their attendants, following an Israeli attack on the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Witnesses, speaking to the “IRNA” news agency, confirmed that the bombardment led to injuries among displaced persons, patients, and doctors. A shell reportedly fell in the hospital’s courtyard, and a nearby building caught fire as a result of the shelling.
According to these witnesses, the hospital experienced a power outage after its generators ceased functioning due to the ongoing bombardment.
