The Libyan armed forces announced on Saturday that 94 of its members and security personnel lost their lives during rescue operations in the Libyan city of Derna, which was struck by the storm “Daniel,” leaving thousands dead and missing, and causing extensive damage.
Ahmed al-Mismari, the spokesperson for the Libyan National Army, stated on Saturday that to the families of the members of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and all other security agencies who participated in the rescue and relief operation in the city of Derna and the Green Mountain region.
Previously, al-Mismari had announced the loss of contact with five soldiers from the armed forces and their vehicles, shortly after the storm, during a mission to rescue stranded families in the city of Bayda.
In the latest statistics, the spokesperson for the Supreme Committee for Emergency and Rapid Response, Mohammed al-Jarrah, reported an increase in the death toll from the floods in the eastern region to 3,802.
Al-Jarrah mentioned the formation of an executive committee for the municipality of Derna, confirming that it would represent the voice of the city in the coming period, replacing the dismissed municipal council.
He also noted that the conference for the reconstruction of Derna is scheduled for October 10.
