In August 2023, Israeli occupation forces detained a total of 510 Palestinians, including 44 children and seven women, according to the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies (PCPS). PCPS reports that these detentions have escalated following acts of resistance carried out in response to Israeli crimes and attacks against Palestinians.
The Israeli forces conducted raids across occupied Palestine, targeting hundreds of homes with arbitrary searches, property damage, and assaults on residents.
As of now, there are nearly 5,100 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, comprising 165 children, 33 women, and 1,300 administrative detainees.
Jerusalem had the highest detention rate, accounting for over 33% of the total detentions, with Israeli forces detaining 145 Palestinians, including five women and 23 children. Among the detained children, a 14-year-old Palestinian boy named Abd Al-Rahman Al-Zaghal was detained after sustaining critical injuries.
PCPS Director Riyad Al-Ashqar noted that the Israeli occupation has escalated attacks against Jerusalemites through various means, especially detention.
Furthermore, Israeli occupation courts issued numerous deportation, house arrest, and administrative detention orders against Palestinians in Jerusalem. These included 24 deportation orders preventing Palestinians from visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque or occupied Jerusalem, 21 house arrest orders for Palestinian children and women, and six administrative detention orders for others.
After Jerusalem, Hebron experienced significant detention campaigns, affecting over 112 Palestinian citizens, including 25 children and three females.
