The United Kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister, Oliver Dowden, announced on Thursday that an emergency meeting of the government’s response committee would be convened to discuss the UK’s strategy and approach regarding Gaza and the conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to Reuters news agency.
Britain is advocating for a humanitarian ceasefire in the conflict and ensuring the safe departure of Britons in Gaza.
Dowden, who will chair the meeting, stated in an interview with Sky News: “We will discuss the issue of hostages, address the broader regional situation, and also talk about securing humanitarian aid.”
Additionally, at least 160 children in the West Bank have sustained injuries. Even before the tragic events of October 7, 2023, children in the West Bank were already grappling with the highest levels of conflict-related violence in two decades.
This has resulted in the loss of 41 Palestinian children and six Israeli children’s lives this year alone.
UNICEF’s statement underscores the urgent need for international intervention to protect the well-being of children and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region.
