In a counter-operation following last month’s targeting of the Homs military college in central Syria, the Russian military announced it has neutralized 200 militants.
Vadim Kulit, head of the Russian Coordination Center in Damascus and the central region, during a joint press conference with Syrian Army Political Administration director, Major General Hassan Suleiman, declared.”
To date, the operations of the Russian forces have resulted in the elimination of over 200 militants, including 34 field commanders, and the striking of 225 facilities. These include 32 observation points, various training camps, 28 weapon and equipment depots, and 35 underground bunkers and tunnels.”
Kulit emphasized that “all those involved in organizing and committing the heinous assault on the military college will receive the punishment they deserve.”
He added, “Since October 5th, in cooperation with the Syrian army, we have been carrying out a retaliation operation which should demonstrate to the international community the necessity of responding to such actions.
To this end, we are targeting observation points, training camps of terrorists, drone and missile launch sites, among other targets, using aviation and artillery.”
Kulit highlighted the use of reconnaissance information and special forces to strike these targets effectively and noted that “we will continue our combat operations as long as we see it necessary.”
On his part, Major General Suleiman remarked that “the Syrian army, in coordination with the friendly Russian forces operating in Syria, has launched a series of precise operations and targeted strikes against the criminal terrorist organizations responsible for the terrorist attack on the military college in Homs on the fifth of last month.”
He further confirmed that “the joint Syrian-Russian operations have succeeded in destroying all targeted sites and headquarters, including ammunition depots and equipment, and in eliminating hundreds of terrorists affiliated with groups such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Turkistan Islamic Party among other terrorist organizations.”
The retaliation comes after several drones exploded during a celebration marking the graduation of a new class of students from the Syrian military college in Homs, central Syria, on October 5th.
The incident occurred after the ceremony, while the graduating students were taking commemorative photos with their families, resulting in 81 fatalities and 239 injuries, including women and children from the graduates’ families.
