Dmitry Polyansky, the First Deputy Representative of Russia to the United Nations, declared that the ongoing conflict in Gaza has exposed the double standards of Western countries.
Speaking to Sputnik news agency, Polyansky criticized the Western nations for their reluctance to openly condemn Israel’s actions.
Polyansky asserted that the current strife in the Gaza Strip has laid bare the duplicity of Western nations, who, according to him, “do not dare to call Israel’s actions by their real names.” This statement underscores a growing sentiment of frustration towards the West’s handling of the conflict.
The conflict, which has been raging for over a month, escalated with the Palestinian movement Hamas launching “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood” against Israeli settlements bordering Gaza. This operation resulted in the capture of several Israeli soldiers and settlers.
In response, Israel initiated “Operation Iron Swords,” leading to intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations reports that this retaliation has led to thousands of civilian casualties, predominantly children, amid severe restrictions on humanitarian aid and essential services like water, electricity, and fuel. This situation has turned the crisis in Gaza into a grave humanitarian disaster.
Polyansky’s comments highlight a growing international debate on the treatment of the Gaza conflict by Western powers, raising questions about global political dynamics and the impartiality of international responses to such crises.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously expressed strong criticism of Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza, stating that it violates international law and poses the risk of creating a long-lasting catastrophe.
In an interview with the Belarusian state news agency Belta, Lavrov conveyed Moscow’s disapproval, marking some of Russia’s most critical comments on Israel to date.
