Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, today, Sunday, called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza in light of the harrowing reports of ongoing hostilities and heavy bombardment.
In a statement released on the “X” platform, Dr. Tedros expressed alarm over the situation, particularly after a WHO team visited Nasser Medical Hospital in Southern Gaza.
The hospital, he noted, was overwhelmed, operating at three times its capacity with 1,000 patients.
Describing the dire conditions, Dr. Tedros observed patients receiving care on the floor, amidst cries of pain, emphasizing the inappropriateness of the situation for delivering healthcare.
Dr. Tedros concluded with an urgent plea for a ceasefire, stressing the critical need to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
Nasser Medical Complex, a Palestinian Ministry of Health hospital in Khan Yunis, South Gaza, is among the most significant healthcare facilities in the region.
