As fierce battles continue in Gaza, Al Arabiya’s correspondent reported today, Thursday, that there has been a renewal of intensive Israeli artillery shelling on southern Lebanon.
Targeting the Settlements of Avivim and Dovev
In contrast, our correspondent reported that three Israelis were injured in an anti-tank missile attack targeting the settlements of Avivim and Dovev.
Israeli media mentioned that several vehicles caught fire following a rocket attack in the Galilee region.
This came after the Israeli army, on Wednesday evening, released a video claiming to show a bombing targeting a Hezbollah operations command center in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military spokesperson, Daniel Hagar, posted on his “X” account: “Air force fighters attacked Hezbollah’s operations headquarters in Lebanese territory.”
Targeting Sites in Southern Lebanon
Since Wednesday morning, the Israeli army has launched artillery and tank fire at several sites in southern Lebanon. Additionally, several launch operations targeting Israeli forces from Lebanese territory towards the Goren and Menara areas were revealed.
“Israel Does Not Seek to Open a Front in the North”
Israel previously stated that it does not seek to open a front in the north, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Beirut would turn into “Gaza” if Hezbollah started a comprehensive war.
However, with more than 80,000 Israelis fleeing towns and villages in the north, Israel also said it wants to keep Hezbollah away from the border in line with a United Nations resolution that ended the 2006 war.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said on Monday, “We will return the residents of the north to their homes on the border after fully restoring security. We prefer to do this through understanding, ensuring that the border area is free of terrorists and does not allow direct threats to our citizens.”
He added, “If such an operation is not carried out diplomatically, we will not hesitate to take action.”
Non-Stop Raids
It should be noted that since the outbreak of war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip on October 7, Israel has been bombarding southern Lebanon with artillery and conducting air raids, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of Hezbollah fighters and civilians.
Hezbollah also conducts almost daily rocket attacks on Israel, causing human and material losses in the Israeli army.
