Thomas Portes, a Member of Parliament from La France Insoumise (LFI) Party, has lodged a criminal complaint against 4,185 French nationals serving in the Israeli military.
He accuses them of being “complicit in crimes against humanity and war crimes” committed in Gaza.
In a statement released on social media, as reported by AAı, Portes highlighted the magnitude of the atrocities carried out by the Israeli forces in Gaza and the West Bank.
He confirmed that he has submitted a formal complaint to the prosecutor’s office against these French individuals who are actively engaged in military actions in these regions.
Along with his statement, Portes also shared the legal petition he sent to the prosecutor’s office. He pointed out that there are 4,185 French citizens enlisted in the Israeli army in the area.
Portes underscored the severe impact on Gaza’s population, noting that since October 7, 1 percent of Gazans, predominantly women and children, have been killed, and many civilians have been forcibly displaced.
He further mentioned that in the past two months, several international law specialists and human rights organizations have classified the mass killings in the region as “war crimes,” “crimes against humanity,” or even “genocide.”
Asserting that there is substantial evidence of humanity and war crimes being committed in Gaza, Portes argued that the French soldiers present in Gaza are “complicit” in these offenses and must be held accountable.
He emphasized that French justice has to investigate the involvement of French officers in the region for any violations of international and French laws.
