The US military has reported the successful destruction of anti-ship missiles in a region of Yemen controlled by Houthi rebels.
According to the US Central Command, strikes were carried out on three Houthi missiles that were poised for launch into the Southern Red Sea, posing a threat to both merchant vessels and US Navy ships in the area.
The operation took place at approximately 6:45 p.m. local time on Friday.
The Central Command emphasized that the decision to conduct the strikes was based on the determination that the missiles presented an imminent threat.
By neutralizing this threat, the US military aims to enhance the safety of international waters in the region.
This marks the sixth occasion on which the US military has targeted Houthi sites. The action comes in the wake of the US government designating the Houthis as a specially designated global terrorist group on Wednesday.
Despite these measures, Houthi rebels have persisted in launching attacks on vessels in the region, exemplified by the firing of ballistic missiles into waters near a tanker on Thursday.
The situation underscores the ongoing challenges and tensions in the region.
