West Ham United, the English club, has announced the signing of Manchester City midfielder Calvin Phillips on loan until the end of the current season, citing the player’s limited participation with the Cityzens as the reason for his departure.
In an official statement on their website, West Ham United expressed their pleasure in confirming the loan signing of English midfielder Calvin Phillips for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. The club added, “The 28-year-old joins the Hammers from Manchester City and could make his debut in the Premier League match against Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Thursday.”
Phillips has earned 31 caps for England, starting every match as the Three Lions reached the final of the 2020 European Championship and also featured in the 2022 World Cup finals. On the club level, he led his childhood club Leeds United to the Premier League before moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2022, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup last year.
The new West Ham player, who will wear the number 11 shirt, expressed his happiness about the move, saying, “I’m really happy to be here. There’s always been a lot of speculation about me moving to West Ham, so I’m very excited to be making the move now.” He continued, “There’s a lot to look forward to in the second half of the season for the club, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. There’s an incredible group here, and if I can come in and add the quality I know I can, I’m sure we can give West Ham fans a lot of excitement from now until the end of the season.”
