UAE & Cyprus Slam Israeli Attack on Humanitarian Staff
In a unified stance, the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus have voiced their profound condemnation of the recent Israeli strike targeting humanitarian aid workers from the World Central Kitchen (WCK). The joint statement, released on Tuesday, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, their respective nations, and extended sympathies to the management and staff of WCK, while also wishing a swift recovery to those injured in the attack.
Both the UAE and Cyprus vehemently denounced any violence directed towards humanitarian workers, emphasizing their dedication to serving those in need. The statement reiterated the view that targeting aid personnel represents a blatant violation of international treaties aimed at safeguarding the protection of relief and rescue workers.
Through the Amalthea Initiative, spearheaded by the UAE, Cyprus, and the World Central Kitchen, urgent humanitarian aid and supplies are being mobilized for delivery to the Gaza Strip. The initiative aims to address the pressing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, particularly in the northern region, by ensuring the safe distribution of food supplies to prevent famine and alleviate further suffering.
Highlighting the urgent need for collective international action to mitigate the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, both nations underscored the importance of immediate, safe, and sustainable delivery of aid. Palestinian families, facing critical shortages of essential resources, urgently require assistance to prevent further deterioration of the health situation.
The statement also called upon Israel to fulfill its responsibility in ensuring the protection of humanitarian workers, enabling them to carry out their vital work without fear for their safety or lives.
