The Israeli military announced, on Sunday, that four soldiers died in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll to 604.
The four commandos died on Saturday in southern Gaza, according to the military’s statement.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had eliminated a person they described as a senior internal security leader of Hamas in an airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip last Wednesday.
A joint statement from the Israeli military and the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) identified the individual as Akram Abdul Rahman Hussein Salameh, stating he held several key positions within Hamas, including the Deputy Head of the Khan Younis region.
Salameh was reportedly involved in planning attacks within Israel.
The operation was based on intelligence from the IDF and Shin Bet, executed by Israeli Air Force aircraft.
The Palestinian News Agency reported on Saturday that three people were killed and more than 10 were injured in Israeli artillery strikes on various areas of the Gaza Strip in the early hours of the morning.
The agency detailed that the artillery shelling targeted residential homes in the Zeitoun neighborhood southeast of Gaza City, as well as the Tal Al-Hawa, Sheikh Ajlin, and Al-Sabra neighbourhoods, resulting in three deaths and around 10 injuries.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that approximately 62% of homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed as a result of the ongoing conflict in the area.
UNRWA further pointed out that over 75% of Gaza’s population has been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and shelter elsewhere, including UNRWA’s own shelter facilities. Many of these individuals have had to move multiple times due to the war’s progression.
