The Ukrainian Ministry of Economy announced that Denmark has pledged approximately $313 million to support Ukraine’s defence industry.
This move comes as part of Copenhagen’s ongoing commitment to aid Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict, as detailed in a statement following a visit by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko to Denmark.
According to the statement released by Ukraine’s official news agency, Ukrinform, on Thursday, Denmark has agreed to a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes 200 million Danish kroner (over $28 million).
This funding is specifically aimed at investing in Ukraine’s defence industry, including the procurement and transfer of weapons and ammunition.
Furthermore, the Danish government has allocated a total of 2 billion Danish kroner for purchasing ammunition, drones, and missile components in collaboration with the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. This funding also aims to strengthen the naval capabilities of the Ukrainian defence forces.
Svyrydenko highlighted the significance of Denmark’s support, stating, “Denmark has consistently supported Ukrainian producers across various sectors, and now the defence industry is also included.”
She emphasized that this contribution is crucial not only for battlefield resilience but also for the Ukrainian economy, as it creates jobs and generates tax revenue that remains within the country.
The Ukrainian Economy Minister added that besides investing in Ukraine, Denmark is also prepared to help boost Ukrainian exports to Denmark.
Several pilot projects have already been launched, including Danish supermarkets dedicating shelves to products made in Ukraine.
Ukrinform also noted that Denmark has allocated $5.8 million to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund, contributing approximately 11 million euros over the past two years.
This financial support underlines Denmark’s comprehensive approach to aiding Ukraine during its challenging times, emphasizing both military and economic assistance.
