The Russian Defense Ministry revealed today that President Vladimir Putin has ordered the commencement of military preparations for exercises involving the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons.
According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, the General Staff has begun preparations for an exercise with missile formations of the Southern Military District, aimed at enhancing the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to carry out combat missions.
This exercise will involve the participation of aviation and naval forces.
During the exercise, various activities will be conducted to train personnel in the preparation and utilization of non-strategic nuclear weapons.
The Russian Defense Ministry clarified that the primary objective of the exercise is to maintain the readiness of personnel and equipment of units involved in the combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons.
This is to ensure the safety and sovereignty of Russian territory in response to provocative statements and threats issued by some Western officials against Russia.
Putin previously affirmed Russia’s readiness to use nuclear weapons in the event of a threat to the country. However, he noted that there was no necessity to use tactical nuclear weapons during specific military operations.
Putin emphasized that Russia is technically and militarily prepared for nuclear warfare. However, he does not perceive a direct confrontation as imminent.
Furthermore, Putin highlighted that while the United States is enhancing its nuclear forces, this does not imply an immediate readiness to initiate a nuclear conflict.
