The Saudi Foreign Ministry issued a stern warning regarding the Israeli military’s intensified operations in and around Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, following the evacuation urged by the Israeli army.
The ministry highlighted the grave risks posed by the Israeli forces’ ongoing campaign, which includes targeting Rafah as part of a systematic and bloody attempt to invade all areas of Gaza and displace its residents into uncertainty amid the significant destruction wrought by the Israeli war machine.
The Saudi ministry firmly condemned the Israeli forces’ continuous blatant violations of international resolutions that call for halting these massacres.
It criticized their disregard for international law and humanitarian law, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and hindering international peace efforts, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Furthermore, the kingdom reiterated its call for immediate international intervention to stop the acts of genocide being carried out by the Israeli military against unarmed civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The call for action reflects the kingdom’s growing concern over the escalating violence and its potential to further destabilize the region.
Rafah, home to about 1.2 million people, has seen the majority of its residents displaced from other parts of the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing conflict, which has lasted seven months, as per estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Many Western countries, led by the United States, along with the United Nations, have repeatedly cautioned against an invasion of the city, especially without securing safe zones for evacuating the displaced.
Despite international warnings, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has emphasized his intention to proceed with the invasion of Rafah, regardless of whether an agreement is reached for a prisoner swap and ceasefire.
