In a significant development, the Egyptian Anti-Doping Committee has provisionally suspended footballer Ramadan Sobhi.
The decision follows allegations of tampering with a doping sample. Sobhi, currently playing for Pyramids FC, awaits a formal hearing to address these claims.
The Committee in its statement revealed, “Ramadan Sobhi responded to our initial communication on April 9. Based on his response, we have decided to temporarily suspend him until the hearing is conducted.”
A source from Pyramids FC told FilGoal.com, “Sobhi underwent a doping test following a continental match. During the procedure, there was an altercation between him and the medical professional collecting the sample.”
The source added, “The Anti-Doping Organization later informed us that the first sample was damaged but the second sample was secured. They have requested an explanation for the damage within 14 days.”
“Sobhi has been an international player for many years, subjected to numerous doping tests, all returning negative results.
The Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization has taken six samples from Sobhi during this period, all of which were negative,” the source continued.
Concluding the statement, the source stressed, “There is no truth to the allegations of a positive sample from Sobhi, and we will take legal action against anyone claiming otherwise without evidence.”
The upcoming hearing will be crucial in determining the future of Sobhi’s career amid these serious allegations.
The player began his career with Al Ahly and made his first appearance in February 2014 and in July 2016, he joined Stoke City in England for £5 million.
He spent two seasons with Stoke City before moving to Huddersfield Town in June 2018. In 2020, he joined Pyramids FC after spending the 2019/2020 season on loan at Al Ahly.
