The University of Palermo in Italy has announced the suspension of all academic relations with Israeli universities until the end of the Israeli war on Gaza.
The decision by the Academic Council of the University of Palermo to suspend its agreements with Israeli universities comes in response to what they described as “a lack of necessary security guarantees facing participants sent in this sensitive moment of the international crisis.”
Additionally, the council announced its efforts to take actions aimed at supporting the Palestinian education system.
Israel’s war on Gaza has resulted in over 119,000 Palestinian casualties – mostly children and women – and approximately 10,000 missing persons, amidst massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues this war, disregarding a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities, and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt its attack on Rafah and take immediate measures to prevent genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
