Benny Gantz, a key member of Israel’s war cabinet, has announced his intention to resign from the emergency government, setting his departure for tomorrow evening.
This decision follows a recent meeting of his State Camp party, which discussed the departure based on Gantz’s previously stated conditions concerning the war, related negotiations, and post-conflict planning.
Israeli media reports indicate that Gantz has requested his office to organize a press conference for tomorrow evening to address his resignation.
Ynet reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to propose Gideon Sa’ar as Gantz’s replacement in the war cabinet.
Should Sa’ar decline, Netanyahu is considering the complete disbandment of the current cabinet.
The Israeli media outlet, Makan, highlighted concerns in Washington regarding Gantz’s resignation, noting that American officials view Gantz as a close partner in ongoing efforts.
In a recent speech, Gantz outlined six critical objectives: the return of hostages, the defeat of Hamas, the disarmament of Gaza, the establishment of an alternative authority in the region, the return of northern settlers by September 1st, and the advancement of normalization efforts alongside the adoption of a military service plan in Israel.
