The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that warships from the Russian Pacific Fleet conducted joint exercises in the Mediterranean Sea with units of the Egyptian Navy. Prior to this, the Russian warship detachment, consisting of the missile cruiser “Varyag” and the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov,” departed from the port of Alexandria after a working visit to this Egyptian port.
The ministry confirmed that this joint exercise was another practical step in strengthening Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation. On the Egyptian side, the frigate “Al-Qadeer,” which is among the newest and most technologically advanced vessels in the Egyptian Navy, participated in the drills, boasting high technical specifications and advanced weapon systems.
In 2024, the Egyptian military conducted several significant drills, including joint exercises with international partners. One notable exercise was “Cyclone-2,” a joint military drill with Indian special forces, which aimed to exchange expertise and enhance skills in combat training fields in Egypt. This exercise followed the successful “Cyclone-1” held in January 2023.
Additionally, the Egyptian Armed Forces conducted comprehensive training exercises in the Third Field Army and the Northern Military Zone. These included command center projects and practical demonstrations of technical security procedures for military equipment. The exercises were designed to ensure high combat readiness and technical efficiency.
