The Director General of Moroccan National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, met with officials from the German Federal Police and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) to explore ways to enhance bilateral security cooperation.
The discussions, which took place during an official visit to Germany at the invitation of the German side, focused on counter-terrorism, transnational organized crime, and security at major sporting events.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) noted that Hammouchi held working meetings with Dieter Roman, Chief of the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei), Holger Münch, President of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), and other German security officials specializing in counter-terrorism and sports security.
The discussions included exchanging views on various security issues of mutual interest, evaluating the outcomes of bilateral police cooperation, and addressing regional and international security challenges.
The statement added that Hammouchi and his delegation visited the Joint Counter-Terrorism Center (GTAZ) in Berlin.
There, they were briefed on the center’s coordination mechanisms among various German security agencies and explored potential collaboration with Moroccan security authorities in combating cross-border terrorist threats.
The visit also covered potential cooperation in sports security, including the exchange of expertise and technical assistance in securing major events. Hammouchi reviewed security measures and standards implemented by Berlin police to ensure the safety of the ongoing UEFA European Football Championship.
The Moroccan delegation, accompanied by the President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, also toured the facilities and equipment at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, which hosts several European sports matches, and the Police Operations Management Center, which oversees security protocols during the tournament.
The statement highlighted that learning from the German experience in organizing and securing major events is part of Morocco’s advanced preparations to host international security conferences and global sports championships.
These events include the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech next year, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
