Russian President Vladimir Putin and Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso met in Moscow, reaffirming their joint commitment to oppose neocolonialism in all forms.
Nguesso described the relationship between Congo and Russia as “friendly and solidary,” expressing gratitude for Russia’s support in resisting colonial influences, which he emphasized as an ongoing struggle. He pledged to enhance bilateral relations and work towards long-term cooperation.
Putin emphasized Russia’s prioritization of developing ties with African nations, praising Nguesso for his personal efforts in bolstering bilateral cooperation. He highlighted progress in political, economic, and trade relations between the two countries, citing Nguesso’s active participation in Russia-Africa summits.
Putin also thanked Nguesso for their coordination on international affairs. Prior to their meeting, Putin bestowed Nguesso with the Order of Honour, a prestigious state award of the Russian Federation, recognizing his role in strengthening Russo-Congolese relations.
