The United States has called on the Houthi group in Yemen to release all detained United Nations employees, NGO staff, and diplomatic mission personnel.
In a press conference, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller urged the Houthis to release all detained UN employees, NGO staff, and diplomatic mission personnel who were arrested last month.
The statement, shared by the US Embassy in Yemen on platform X, condemned the unlawful detentions by the Houthis, noting that these detainees have no involvement in the conflict. Miller emphasized that such actions alienate the international community, complicate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and jeopardize the Yemeni peace process.
On June 11, UN Secretary-General António Guterres also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all UN employees detained in Yemen.
In other news, Yemeni media reported a terrorist attack in Shabwa province, where RPGs and mortars targeted a Yemeni military site.
A roadside bomb exploded, killing three soldiers and injuring others as they approached to reinforce the site. The attackers, using RPGs, mortars, and small arms, fled under heavy fire from Yemeni forces, resulting in several casualties among the terrorists.
While no group immediately claimed responsibility, Al-Qaeda militants, known to be active in several Yemeni provinces, frequently carry out attacks against military and security forces.
