On Wednesday, the United Kingdom announced the appointment of Nigel Casey, a seasoned diplomat, as its new ambassador to Russia. He will replace the incumbent Ambassador, Deborah Bronnert, and is slated to take on his new role in November 2023.
The British Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, “Mr. Nigel Casey has been appointed as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Russia, succeeding Ms. Deborah Bronnert, who will transition to another diplomatic post. Mr. Casey will commence his role in November 2023.”
The Ministry’s statement indicated that Deborah Bronnert has been serving as the UK’s representative in Russia since early 2020 and will soon undertake another role within the diplomatic service.
Notably, Nigel Casey had previously served as the First Secretary at the British Embassy in Moscow in the early 2000s.
This reshuffling in the diplomatic sphere signifies an important phase in UK-Russia relations. With Casey’s prior experience in Moscow, his appointment is expected to usher in a new era of diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
