Algeria is participating in the public hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) dedicated to hearing oral arguments on the advisory opinion on the legal consequences of the policies and practices of the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories.
According to a statement from the Algerian Embassy in The Hague (Netherlands), Algeria is expected to present its oral presentation on Tuesday, following instructions from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The statement clarified that Algeria’s participation will be through a legal team trained under the President’s instructions and supervised by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.
The statement added that Algeria is expected to deliver its oral presentation tomorrow, after having participated in all previous stages of this process. Algeria submitted a written presentation and observations on the written presentations of other countries in line with the various procedures announced by the Court in this regard.
Earlier today, the ICJ in The Hague opened the public hearings dedicated to hearing oral arguments on the advisory opinion on the legal consequences of the policies and practices of the Israeli entity in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem. This is in response to the request of the United Nations General Assembly to issue an advisory opinion on this matter.
The day’s sessions began with the presentation of the Palestinian delegation headed by Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, which consists of a legal team and members of the Palestinian diplomatic mission accredited to the Netherlands.
In his speech before the ICJ in The Hague, the Palestinian Foreign Minister stressed that the Israeli occupation must end unconditionally, pointing out that the Israeli entity is defying the Court’s order to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.
For its part, the Palestinian legal team before the ICJ stressed that the Israeli occupation is working to remain permanently in the occupied Palestinian territories by establishing and expanding settlements.
The team pointed out that recent events in the Gaza Strip have serious security implications, stressing that the ICJ’s opinion is important in this case.
