On Thursday, Algeria’s Finance Minister, Aziz Fayed, welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Li Jian, to discuss the economic and financial cooperation between the two nations.
According to a statement from the ministry, the meeting provided an opportunity to “review the current state of bilateral economic and financial relations and to explore ways to enhance them.” The dialogue between the two officials also covered “the outcomes of the visit made by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to China last July.”
Specific emphasis was placed on the topic of financing major strategic economic projects. Such ventures include the exploitation of the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, the integrated phosphate in the east of the country, the Central Port, and the railway projects.
Minister Fayed commended “the contribution of Chinese institutions in the development of the Algerian economy.” He expressed his hope for greater participation of these companies in the Algerian market.
On his part, the Chinese Ambassador conveyed “his satisfaction with the quality of relations between the two countries.” Reiterating Beijing’s continued commitment to “diversifying Sino-Algerian cooperation, especially in the fields of banking, infrastructure, and digitization,” the statement added.
