The Al-Tanf American military base, located at the strategic junction of the Syrian, Iraqi, and Jordanian borders, came under attack by suicide drones in the early hours of Sunday.
According to a report by “Sky News Arabia,” ground defenses at the base successfully intercepted at least one drone, destroying it several kilometers before reaching the base perimeter.
The attack triggered alarm sirens within the base, prompting immediate calls over loudspeakers for personnel to seek shelter in bunkers and trenches.
This recent drone strike is part of a series of aggressions, with Al-Tanf facing approximately 15 attacks following the military escalation in the Gaza Strip, out of over 122 assaults on International Coalition bases in Syria.
This latest attempt to target the base occurred less than 24 hours after the Conoco gas field, where US and International Coalition forces are stationed, was hit by several missiles. One of the missiles landed in the vicinity of the base, though there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
In a related development, a US cargo plane landed on Saturday evening at the Khirab al-Jir base in the countryside of Rmelan, north of Hasakah, carrying military and logistical equipment.
These reinforcements are part of efforts to strengthen American bases in anticipation of potential Iranian responses to Israeli attacks, which targeted a building associated with the Iranian embassy and resulted in the deaths of high-ranking members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Quds Force.
This incident underscores the volatile security situation in the region, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by international forces stationed in strategic locations across Syria.
