Thousands of Czech citizens gathered in the capital city of Prague on Saturday to demand the resignation of the government due to concerns about high energy prices, living costs, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This protest brought together various groups, including both far-right and far-left activists, and marked the third rally at Prague’s Wenceslas Square organized by a newly established political party called PRO.
The demonstrators repeatedly called for the resignation of the five-party ruling coalition, expressing their dissatisfaction with the current government’s policies. The leader of the populist group PRO, Jindrich Rajchl, criticized the government for what he perceived as excessive adherence to directives from Brussels, as well as the country’s support for Ukraine and its close relationship with the United States.
It’s worth noting that PRO, which stands for Law, Respect, Expertise in English, currently does not hold any seats in the Czech parliament. During the protest, some demonstrators also voiced demands for the country to withdraw from NATO, reflecting the diversity of concerns among the participants.
The protesters had plans to march towards the Interior Ministry building in Prague, where they aimed to amplify their message. This demonstration reflects the growing discontent among certain segments of the Czech population over various domestic and international issues, including the economic challenges and geopolitical developments related to Ukraine.
