On Monday marked the commencement of the 17th session of the Committee of Renewable Energy Experts and Energy Efficiency for the Arab countries. Hosted at the headquarters of the Arab League, the two-day gathering sees participation from member Arab nations and several organizations and bodies operating within the energy sector.
Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki Emphasizes Meeting’s Significance
The Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs sector, Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, emphasized the importance of the meeting and the topics slated for discussion.
Notably, the agenda includes the adoption of the final version of a document titled, “Towards an Arab Strategy for Green Hydrogen.” In addition, a topic will be selected for the 12th celebration of the Arab Day for Energy Efficiency, scheduled for 2024.
Al-Maliki mentioned another vital topic on the meeting’s agenda: the energy transition and prospects for developing the production and use of hydrogen.
This topic was proposed by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and is set to be discussed and potentially incorporated into the agenda of the 5th Economic and Social Development Summit.
Arab League’s Energy Department Updates
Jamila Matar, the Director of the Arab League’s Energy Department, pointed out that the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity is on the verge of releasing the sixth edition of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Guide for Arab Countries (2023).
This initiative is based on a proposal submitted by the council’s secretariat and the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
She also highlighted the development of a summary concerning the status of electric vehicles in Arab countries, an effort that lays the groundwork for completing a guide on installing charging stations. This guide is being crafted in collaboration with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
The session will further delve into topics of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Arab nations and related activities.
The meeting serves as a platform for dialogue among Arab nations, aimed at sharing knowledge, strategies, and challenges in the realm of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
As environmental concerns grow globally, the Arab countries have been making strides in harnessing renewable energy sources, with a particular emphasis on solar and wind energy.
