In a recent interview with ABC News, U.S. President Joe Biden revealed that he has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seriously consider the safety of civilians in Rafah.
Biden emphasized the importance of protecting non-combatants amidst ongoing conflicts in Gaza.
According to the Arab World News Agency, Biden expressed his belief that Netanyahu is attentive to the U.S. request, indicating a potential shift towards greater consideration for civilian welfare in the region.
Last Friday, President Biden announced a comprehensive three-phase plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza. The first phase, expected to last six weeks, calls for a complete and comprehensive ceasefire.
This initial stage also includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all inhabited areas in Gaza and the release of several hostages, including women, the elderly, and the injured, in exchange for the liberation of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
During this phase, displaced Palestinians are expected to return to their homes across Gaza.
Humanitarian aid is set to increase significantly, with an estimated 600 trucks delivering essential supplies daily.
The first phase also involves negotiations between Israel and Hamas, aiming to pave the way for the subsequent phase.
The second phase is anticipated to focus on the release of all remaining hostages and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, leading towards a more stable and peaceful resolution.
