The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced the inclusion of the “Egypt Capital Cup” tournament in its series of experimental friendly competitions.
Set to unfold in Cairo from March 22 to 26, the event will feature the national teams of Egypt, Croatia, Tunisia, and New Zealand.
FIFA stated that, as per a decision by the FIFA Council in December 2022, and in line with the strategic goals of the sport, the FIFA series will comprise friendly matches between national teams from various continental associations, often not afforded the opportunity to compete against each other.
The experimental series in 2024, led by the Egypt Capital Cup, will serve as a blueprint for the expanded adoption of the series in the coming years.
FIFA expanded this year’s experimental edition to include four additional teams: Croatia, Egypt, Tunisia, and New Zealand, who will vie for victory in Cairo from March 22-26.
The primary objective of this new football initiative is to enhance international football interaction beyond local matches, thereby contributing to tangible football development worldwide.
With Egypt joining this experimental edition, the 2024 FIFA series will see the participation of 24 associations playing in five venues across three continents, ensuring representation from all six continental federations.
The 2024 FIFA series is scheduled to take place in Algeria, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia.
The 2024 edition of the FIFA series will be held in Algeria, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, and Saudi Arabia.
