An 8-year-old girl named Malak was killed on Friday following shrapnel injuries from air raids conducted by the Sudanese Armed Forces’ warplanes on the city of El Fasher in North Darfur.
The air strikes also resulted in injuries to three other civilians, according to eyewitnesses who spoke to “Darfur24.”
A relative of Malak told “Darfur24” that shrapnel from a shell struck the girl inside their home in the “Dim Salik” neighborhood, north of El Fasher’s main market, leading to her immediate death.
Sudanese Armed Forces’ Antonov aircraft circled over El Fasher for more than an hour on Friday, launching over 12 shells at the northeastern neighborhoods under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The RSF responded with heavy anti-aircraft fire, causing strong ground vibrations from the aerial bombardments.
Eyewitnesses reported to “Darfur24” that the strikes targeted RSF positions in the affected neighborhoods and resulted in the destruction of several homes in parts of the “Dim Salik, Al-Ma’had, Al-Osra, Al-Mina Al-Bari, and Al-Bursa” areas.
Today’s raid on El Fasher marks the second this month, the fifth this year, and the eighth since the onset of fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in April last year.
Last Wednesday, a warplane targeted RSF positions in the eastern and northern neighborhoods of El Fasher in an aerial raid.
Medical sources reported several fatalities and injuries among civilians, in addition to the destruction of dozens of homes in the city.
