On Monday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced its concerns regarding the United States alleged intelligence-gathering capabilities within China.
Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed these apprehensions in response to reports suggesting that William Burns, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), stated last week that the US intelligence agency had made progress in rebuilding its intelligence network in China.
According to the Chinese news network CGTN, Burns also mentioned that the agency possesses robust human intelligence capabilities within China.
Mao confirmed that Chinese authorities have been monitoring these reports and expressed their worries about the matter.
The Chinese spokesperson further pointed out that the United States continues to disseminate misleading information about so-called Chinese spies and cyberattacks.
However, at the same time, the US does not conceal its intent to carry out extensive intelligence gathering against China.
Mao emphasized that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national security.
