Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, emphasized that the decision to foster and expand China-Russia relations is a strategic one, rooted in the core interests of both nations’ people.
This meeting followed Mishustin’s discussion with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, overseeing the 28th routine summit between the heads of government of China and Russia.
Chinese analysts have praised the deep strategic cooperation between the two nations in recent years, considering it an exemplary representation of modern major power relations, vital for the stable progress of the global community.
They foresee an enhancement in the intrinsic dynamics of the relationship under the leadership of the state heads, extending beyond trade and economics to encompass cultural and interpersonal exchanges.
Xi highlighted the comprehensive exchanges between the governments, legislative bodies, political parties, and local authorities of the two countries during his dialogue with Mishustin. He noted that pragmatic cooperation across various sectors has evolved healthily and steadily.
Xi also pointed out that in the first eleven months of the year, the bilateral trade between China and Russia reached the annual target of $200 billion set by both leaders, indicating the robust resilience and expansive potential for mutually advantageous collaboration.
Additionally, Xi expressed his aspiration to use the upcoming 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic relations as a fresh impetus to further amplify the benefits of high-level political relations and collaboratively advance the comprehensive progression of economic and societal development and the realization of national rejuvenation.
Mishustin extolled the China-Russia relationship as being at its historical zenith, with rapid development momentum. He described the bilateral ties as a “ballast and stabilizer of international relations,” according to Xinhua.
Russia is eager to collaborate with China in reinforcing communication and coordination within global frameworks like the UN and BRICS, Mishustin stated, as reported by Xinhua.
Li Haidong, a professor at the China Foreign Affairs University, told the Global Times that Xi’s meeting with Mishustin underscores the deep-rooted strategic trust and support between Beijing and Moscow.
Li noted that the fortification of trade and economic ties lays the groundwork for broader cooperation, and history has demonstrated the close and effective strategic coordination between the two sides.
Li contrasted China and Russia’s consistent implementation of their words into actions with the United States’ contradictory approach to managing relationships with China, Europe, and Russia.
He asserted that the congruency between words and deeds is a key reason why China-Russia relations serve as a paradigm for great power relations.
