The toll of fatalities attributed to hunger in the Gaza Strip has escalated to 20, as reported by Al Mayadeen television based in Lebanon.
A recent report highlighted the tragic demise of a 15-year-old boy due to starvation. Further details from Al Mayadeen, referencing United Nations figures, reveal that about 85% of the population in the besieged Palestinian territory has been displaced, grappling with acute scarcities of essential resources such as food, potable water, and medical supplies.
The conflict has also led to significant infrastructural damage, with around 60% of the Gaza Strip’s buildings being either partially destroyed or completely razed.
Since October 7, 2023, over 30,700 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives due to Israeli military actions.
The situation in the Middle East intensified on October 7, 2023, following an unexpected incursion by militants from Hamas, recognized as a terrorist organization by several countries, into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip.
This incursion resulted in the deaths of civilians in border areas and the abduction of numerous hostages.
In retaliation, Israel imposed a comprehensive blockade on Gaza and initiated aerial and ground assaults within the Strip, extending strikes to certain locales in Lebanon and Syria. The West Bank has also witnessed violent confrontations.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) previously issued a warning about a looming famine in the northern part of Gaza, highlighting that aid is barely reaching the area following the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing.
