The organization Doctors Without Borders has announced the injury of individuals from the families of its staff due to the targeting of a refugee home in southern Gaza.
The organization stated in an official statement on its website today, Tuesday, that 4 people from the families of its employees were injured after a mortar shell fell on a house housing refugees in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, noting that among the wounded is a 5-year-old girl.
The organization emphasized that it did not receive any warning to evacuate the house before it was shelled, reiterating its confirmation that there is no safe place in Gaza.
The current situation in Gaza is marked by escalating hostilities and humanitarian crises. Recent events include intense Israeli bombardment and fighting on the ground, which has led to significant casualties and displacement. A notable incident was the killing of the son of Al Jazeera journalist Wael Dahdouh in an Israeli missile strike, which has intensified the sense of tragedy in the region. The Al-Aqsa Hospital in Gaza also had to be evacuated due to the conflict.
The United Nations has called for an urgent scale-up of aid amid a mass exodus of people seeking safety, especially in Rafah, the southernmost part of the Gaza enclave. This influx has led to dire overcrowding and deteriorating living conditions, with many displaced people suffering from malnutrition, dehydration, and a lack of healthcare. The displacement is a result of heightened hostilities in various parts of Gaza, including Khan Younis and Deir al Balah. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for increased aid deliveries, access to those in need remains severely limited due to ongoing hostilities and logistical challenges.
Al Jazeera reports that Gaza is becoming increasingly unlivable, with over a million Palestinians trapped in overcrowded and unprotected shelters. The situation is described as “not a place for humans” by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
